About

Justine Van den Driessche's artistic approach evolves in a continuous reflection on the interactions between real and virtual, the tangible and the abstract, while exploring the transformations that technology induces in our perception of the world. From her first creations to her most recent ones, her work highlights the tensions between tradition and modernity, questioning the nature of images and their role in the construction of collective realities. Through a transdisciplinary approach and, more recently with generative images, she seeks to capture the mutations of our contemporary environment.

At the heart of her practice, the imperfections generated by digital tools are highlighted to underline the limits and biases of technology. This critical positioning is reflected in the exploration of the gaps between the physical and digital worlds, by questioning the way in which technologies redefine the perception of the environment. Justine Van den Driessche's reflection also unfolds around the impact of visual representations on collective consciousness, by analyzing the way in which images, whether personal or shared online, shape our understanding of the world.

Since 2023, her work has evolved with the introduction of generative images, where she takes a new step in her exploration of hybrid temporalities. The images she produces superimpose bygone eras and dystopian futures, in an approach that revisits the history of art while projecting visions of a humanity in decline. These works mix an idealized past with fallow landscapes, evoking wandering in a world where technological progress has failed to keep its promises. Artificial intelligence becomes for her not only a technical but also a conceptual tool, allowing us to question our cultural heritage and create complex visual narratives, in which the characters and landscapes embody a disoriented humanity, in between two worlds.

Justine Van den Driessche questions the myths of progress and the illusions of emancipation, proposing a disenchanted vision where the relics of the past confront a future dominated by technology. Her approach explores the limits of the human condition in a constantly changing world, seeking to understand how images and technologies shape our reality while redefining our relationships to time, space and history.
